There’s no denying that over the past few years, we’ve seen the 50’s make a comeback in a lot of homes. From egg-shaped chairs to tapered legs, Mid-century Modern has become one of the most popular styles. I’ve always been a fan of the style but it wasn’t until I binge-watched all 7 seasons of Mad Men where I really fell in love with it. It’s the perfect blend of elegant, interesting, simplistic, and comfortable. Today I’m very excited to share this easy DIY Mid-century Modern bar/entertainment unit that sits beautifully in our apartment.
We started with this IKEA Kallax Shelf Unit. It’s not too big and very inexpensive — perfect for an apartment.
To give that classic Mid-century look, we purchased these Waddell Table Legs from Lowe’s, along with a pack ofย metal angled table leg tops.
The legs are just plain wood which looks great on it’s own, or you can stain it for a more finished look. I wanted to have a nice contrast between my maple-toned hardwood floors and the legs of my bar so I decided to give the legs a natural wood stain. It helped bring out the rich wood a little more, while giving it a nice shine.
We flipped the shelf unit over and drilled in the metal tops on each corner. We then screwed the legs into the metal tops. Super easy!
We wanted to add a fun element to our bar so we purchased this Under Cabinet Stemware Holder from Bed Bath and Beyond and screwed it in the top right cabinet of our unit.
We filled the bar with our record player, records, stemware, drink recipe books, and of course, the liquor ๐
Voila! A super easy and inexpensive bar/entertainment unit for you and your guests to enjoy. Hope this was helpful and feel free to share any easy DIY Ikea Kallax hacks you’ve created in the comments ๐
